The International Genomics Conference (ICG-19) commenced at the headquarters of BGI Group in Shenzhen.

WNPH | SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 22, 2024 — The 19th Annual Meeting of the International Conference on Genomics (ICG-19) commenced at BGI Group’s Global Headquarters in Shenzhen. This gathering brings together more than 100 genomics leaders from various countries including the U.S., UK, Denmark, Australia, Singapore, and China to discuss the latest developments in global life sciences.

The conference continues its tradition of promoting collaboration and innovation in the life sciences, with a history of uniting over 1,500 scientists, including Nobel Laureates, and reaching a global audience of over 15 million in the past 18 years.

The opening day highlighted the significance of utilizing genomics to address pressing global issues such as aging, public health, and biodiversity conservation. Dr. Siqi Liu, Chair of the ICG-19 Academic Committee, emphasized BGI’s commitment to advancing genomics in industrial and medical applications.

Professor Huanming Yang, Chair of the ICG-19 Organizing Committee, discussed key genomics milestones, focusing on ethical considerations, open data access, and global cooperation. He also explored transformative technologies like single-cell transcriptomics and AI-driven sequencing in the field of life sciences.

The conference program covers a range of topics including biodiversity, metagenomics, chronic diseases, bioinformatics, public health, precision medicine, gene editing, and biomanufacturing.

During the event, Clarivate recognized distinguished individuals from the 2024 “Highly Cited Researchers” list, including Professor Huanming Yang, Dr. Xun Xu, Professor Karsten Kristiansen, and Jinmiao Chen, for their contributions to the field of genomics.
